Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed these developments in a statement released on Thursday, highlighting the imperative to enhance national security and mitigate criminal activities facilitated by the misuse of tinted glass.<\/p>\n
“The ban on tinted glass, implemented in June 2022, was prompted by concerns regarding its association with various criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal firearms transportation,” the statement elucidated.<\/p>\n
With the proposed lifting of the ban, the Nigeria Police Force is instituting rigorous measures to prevent abuse and enforce strict adherence to the guidelines governing tinted glass permits. Adejobi emphasized the incorporation of distinctive features into the permit to bolster enforcement efficiency and security.<\/p>\n
Scheduled for February 29, 2024, the nationwide training of ICT analysts and enforcement officers will precede the reopening of tinted glass permit issuance. This initiative aims to equip personnel with the requisite skills and knowledge to regulate the registration process, address public complaints, and ensure effective compliance enforcement.<\/p>\n
“The training will underscore the delicate balance between public safety, individual freedoms, and national security, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the new guidelines,” the statement noted.<\/p>\n
Key features of the proposed tinted glass permit include a QR code linked to a centralized database for real-time verification, unique serial numbers correlated with vehicle and owner details, and a digital hologram to ensure authenticity and integrity.<\/p>\n
