Benue State’s Security Council has taken decisive action against open grazing practices within the state, issuing a two-week ultimatum for compliance with the State’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law. Herders and invaders operating within Benue State are required to adhere to the law, with immediate effect, and vacate the state. Additionally, individuals found to be inviting these herders have been warned to cease such actions promptly.<\/p>\n
The resolutions were reached at the conclusion of the State Security Council Meeting held at the Benue State Government House, Makurdi, on Tuesday. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, addressed reporters shortly after the meeting, outlining the decisions made.<\/p>\n
Among the measures implemented, a seven-man committee has been established to enforce the ultimatum, which commenced on Wednesday. Kula emphasized the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the effectiveness of this enforcement.<\/p>\n
In his briefing, Kula urged the people of Benue State to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them that the government is actively working to safeguard lives and property. The Security Council has called upon security agencies, traditional leaders, and the general public to report any individuals colluding with armed herders for prosecution.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Kula reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the state, particularly concerning food security.
