The explosion tragically claimed five lives, injured 77 individuals, and destroyed 58 houses. The report, compiled by medical, security, and engineering teams appointed by the government, identifies three individuals linked to the explosion, who will now face prosecution.

Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, disclosed that a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in one of the affected houses captured the incident. The explosive used was identified as ‘Water Gel Type Based Explosive,’ triggered by an electric spark. The government aims to bring the perpetrators to justice and will check the immigration status of those involved, particularly as most are reported to be from Mali.

The incident occurred on Aderinola Street, not Dejo Oyelese Street as initially reported. The state swiftly deployed security to the epicenter, ensuring the environment remains secure and preventing opportunistic crimes. An emergency situation center, established by the governor, has collected data on the affected houses, fatalities, injuries, and losses suffered.

Governor Makinde signed an Executive Order obligating those dealing with explosives to report within 72 hours. However, no one came forward within the stipulated time. The second phase of the order requires anyone in possession of harmful substances to declare to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security within 24 hours.

The Nigeria Institute of Structural Engineers conducted a structural integrity assessment on 282 houses, determining that only four would require demolition due to the extent of damage. The seismic report is still awaited. Head of the Emergency Operation Centre, Temitope Alonge, reported that 80 victims were managed across various hospitals, with five patients still on admission at the time of the press conference. The patients are in various stages of recovery, with one being treated for a spinal cord injury at Redeemers Hospital.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has received the official report on the January 16 explosion in the Old Bodija area of Ibadan.
