In a bid to enhance infrastructural development and urban aesthetics, the Abia State Government has granted residents of Umuahia, the state capital, an additional two weeks to dismantle all unauthorized extensions and attachments to their buildings.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, following the Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
According to Kanu, the extension period aims to facilitate a smooth transition for affected residents before the commencement of enforcement actions by the government.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“We have given ample time for residents to voluntarily comply with the directive to remove illegal structures. However, after the two-week grace period, the government will proceed with the necessary enforcement measures,” stated Kanu.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the importance of adhering to approved building regulations, Kanu urged property owners to utilize their premises for their designated purposes, be it commercial or residential.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Kanu disclosed Governor Otti’s plans to inaugurate the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ozuakoli-Ohafi road on February 7, 2023. This project will be executed by three construction firms \u2013 Cranbury, Ferotex, and China Civil Engineering Construction Company \u2013 to ensure timely completion.<\/p>\n

In addition to road infrastructure, the state government is embarking on the maintenance of 22 newly constructed roads across various regions of Abia State.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Regarding revenue collection, Kanu announced the abolition of multiple taxation, with plans underway to establish a single multi-purpose agency for streamlined revenue collection and enforcement.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Addressing concerns about the government’s procurement of vehicles totaling 13 billion nairas, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, clarified that the vehicles were intended for government ministries and agencies, rather than personal use by the governor.<\/p>\n
