The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified the cause of the prolonged queues observed at some filling stations in Lagos State, attributing the situation to a “brief distribution issue.” Long queues emerged on Monday at various filling stations in Lagos, sparking concerns about a potential scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).<\/p>\n
Residents experienced queues along Ikorodu Road, with Total Filling Station at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way causing traffic congestion around Ikeja. Several filling stations in the Ikeja axis, through Obafemi Awolowo Road, were reportedly closed. Filling stations owned by the NNPCL along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway also did not dispense fuel as of Monday evening.<\/p>\n
In response to the situation, the NNPCL spokesperson, Femi Soneye, reassured the public that there were no supply issues, and petroleum products remained readily available. Soneye attributed the observed tightness in certain areas to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, stating that it had been promptly resolved.<\/p>\n
“We are pleased to confirm that there are no supply issues, and our products remain readily available. The recent tightness experienced in certain areas was due to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, which has since been resolved,” said Soneye.<\/p>\n
National Vice Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Hammed Fashola, suggested that the queues might be a result of panic-buying by customers. He mentioned that he would investigate the situation to understand the root cause.<\/p>\n
Clement Isong, the Executive Secretary of the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria, was not aware of the situation, as he was not in Lagos at the time of filing the report.<\/p>\n
