Recent security issues, however, have raised concerns about the safety of inhabitants and visitors in this essential metropolis.

A Capital Under Threat

Despite the fact that Abuja is home to several security institutions, like as government offices, military facilities, and law enforcement organisations, the city has seen an alarming spike in violence, including homicides, kidnappings, and robberies.

Residents and concerned citizens have expressed concern about particular neighbourhoods of Abuja, advising against going out in public after 7 p.m. According to reports, there has been an increase in insecurity in various neighbourhoods, including the central mosque, areas 3 and 11, zone 4 bridge, the city gate, and Apo bridge. People have shared terrifying stories, highlighting how crucial personal safety is above all else.

Recent Incidents Highlighting Insecurity

According to the Abuja City Journal, an incident at Abuja’s Life Camp Estate serves as a sharp reminder of the city’s growing insecurity. Suspected armed robbers shut off roads leading to the Brains and Hammers Estate, causing devastating consequences for inhabitants. This incident highlights the urgent need for solutions to the city’s security problems.

International Concerns

Abuja’s security situation has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. In October 2022, the US embassy issued a statement, declaring Abuja at high risk of terror attacks. It makes the problems with resident insecurity much worse.

In light of these growing security concerns, there is an urgent call to action directed at the government, security agencies, and individuals.
