On the official window, the naira closed at an all-time low of N1,482 against the United States dollar, while on the parallel market, it remained stable at N1,450\/$.<\/p>\n<p>Dauran attributed the shutdown to online business transactions and cryptocurrency, stating that it would take effect from Thursday, February 1, 2024. This development occurs alongside the Central Bank of Nigeria&#8217;s recent efforts to stabilize the nation&#8217;s volatile exchange rate.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the apex bank ordered Deposit Money Banks to sell their excess dollar stock by February 1, 2024, and warned against hoarding foreign currencies for profit. The Central Bank believes some commercial banks hold long-term foreign exchange positions to profit from the volatile movements of exchange rates.
