Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has initiated peace talks with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja to secure support for Asue Ighodalo’s gubernatorial aspirations within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The crucial meeting, held at Wells Carlton Hotel, Abuja, included the presence of Ahmadu Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, accompanying Obaseki.<\/p>\n
The move by Obaseki to forge alliances stems from the formidable opposition posed by Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a former House of Representatives member and the favored candidate of Dan Orbih, a key ally of Wike in Edo State. Another challenge looms in the form of Philip Shaibu, the current deputy governor. While Ighodalo exudes confidence in clinching the party’s ticket, navigating the primary against Ogbeide-Ihama and Shaibu is perceived in Obaseki’s camp as a delicate game.<\/p>\n
During the meeting with Wike, Obaseki reportedly sought reconciliation and extended apologies for any previous misunderstandings. To sweeten the deal, Ighodalo is open to selecting Ogbeide-Ihama as his running mate, according to the terms proposed by Obaseki.<\/p>\n
