In response, he has directed security operatives, notably the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to promptly apprehend those responsible for the continued destruction of water pipes and public utility assets in the state.

Governor Mbah issued this directive during visits to the Government House, Enugu, by the new Controller of Immigration, Enugu State, Angelina Sambo, and the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Otoibhi Ehi. The Governor urged the NSCDC commandant to take effective measures to halt the vandalization of water installations and assured continued collaboration with the security agencies.

Expressing gratitude for the support received from security agencies, Governor Mbah acknowledged Enugu State’s reputation as one of the most peaceful and secure states in the country. However, he highlighted challenges related to the security of public utility assets, emphasizing the need to curb criminal activities such as vandalization and theft of government assets.

Despite achieving a water production level of 120,000,000 liters against a consumption level of 80 million liters, the Governor lamented incidents of vandalism, citing a recent case of a destroyed valve in Akwata, leading to water wastage. He underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment and zero tolerance for insecurity, criminal activities, and asset vandalism.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) pledged strengthened collaboration with the Enugu State Government to enhance security and foster a conducive investment environment. NSCDC State Commandant Otoibhi Ehi commended Governor Mbah for logistical support to the corps and emphasized the positive impact of his audacity and cooperation with security agencies on improving security in Enugu State.

Ehi affirmed her commitment to the security and safety of the state, promising to contribute to enhancing security and safeguarding critical infrastructure. The Controller of the Immigration Service assured that the Enugu State Command would operate within the confines of its laws to regulate the presence of non-Nigerians, ensuring legal residency and compliance with Nigerian laws.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed concern over the escalating vandalization of public utility assets, particularly water pipes and valves within the water galleries in the Enugu metropolis.
