The Head of National Office at the West African Certificate Examination (WAEC) in Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, announced that a total of 8,285 candidates have registered for the first series of the Computer-Based West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates in 2024. The examination is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, January 31, to Saturday, February 17, 2024, across Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, Dangut addressed the initial resistance to the computer-based model, stating that the council was undeterred by the skepticism and remained committed to implementing the CB-WASSCE. He expressed satisfaction with the growing acceptance of the innovation, evidenced by the significant number of entries received.<\/p>\n
Out of the registered candidates, Dangut disclosed that 3,949 were male, representing 47.66%, while 4,336 were female, constituting 52.3% of the total candidature.<\/p>\n
Explaining the examination format, Dangut revealed that candidates would be assessed in 19 subjects through 26 papers in a hybrid mode. In this mode, objective or multiple-choice questions would be presented on-screen, and candidates would provide their responses on the screen. The essay and practical questions would also be displayed on-screen, with candidates required to provide responses using the answer booklets provided.<\/p>\n
Dangut urged candidates to visit WAEC’s e-learning portal to access materials demonstrating the requirements for the conduct of the CB-WASSCE. He assured collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, State Ministries of Education, the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and stakeholders to ensure the credibility of the examination.<\/p>\n
“We are set for the conduct of CB-WASSCE for private candidates in 2024.
