The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment by laying out a four-year strategic plan to increase Nigeria’s participation in global technology commerce. Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, announced this goal at the end of the National Council on Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s 11th meeting in Kano.<\/p>\n

The minister emphasized that the administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, is dedicated to strengthening Nigeria’s position as a technology hub through strategic policies. Tijani pointed out that nine priority policies, including the National Broadband Plan and policies on digital public infrastructure and telecommunications, are under review.<\/p>\n

In a comprehensive blueprint document presented in October 2023, the ministry outlined its intentions to leverage digital technology and innovation for economic growth. The National Broadband Plan (2020 \u2013 2025) set a target of 50% broadband penetration by 2023, aiming for inclusivity by providing for physically challenged individuals.<\/p>\n

Tijani highlighted the government’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure for a robust digital economy, focusing on broadband penetration, efficient spectrum management, and the creation of essential digital public infrastructure. The minister also emphasized the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and capital in the strategic blueprint, considering them as pillars for creating a vibrant and inclusive society.<\/p>\n

Expressing gratitude to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for hosting the meeting, Tijani assured the government’s dedication to realizing the outlined goals. Governor Yusuf urged the minister to facilitate the commissioning of the NCC Industrial Park, emphasizing its potential impact on digital development.<\/p>\n

In a related context, during the 2023 Digital Nigeria Conference, the National Information Technology Agency encouraged Nigerians to embrace and harness the vast potential of digital technology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
