{"id":16572,"date":"2024-01-25T20:26:07","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T20:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=16572"},"modified":"2024-01-25T20:26:07","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T20:26:07","slug":"river-basin-authority-to-invest-n13-billion-in-irrigation-development-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/01\/25\/river-basin-authority-to-invest-n13-billion-in-irrigation-development-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"River Basin Authority to Invest N13 Billion in Irrigation Development in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) have unveiled plans to inject thirteen billion Naira into irrigation development in 2024, aiming to bolster food production in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>During a three-day event in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, themed &#8220;Water, Agriculture, Climate Change, and Developmental Challenges in our Basins,&#8221; Mr. Ma\u2019amun Da\u2019u Aliyu, the Managing Director of Hadejia-Jama\u2019are RBDA, shared this information in his keynote address.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Aliyu also revealed that the Commission has injected about N198 billion into the economy over the years for agricultural development, including irrigation. He expressed optimism about sustaining such efforts for the overall well-being of the people.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the importance of prioritizing irrigation development, employment generation within the commission, water supply, and adequate funding. These, he believes, will enhance agricultural development in the country and align with President Bola Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope Agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have allocated N13 billion for irrigation development in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe RBDAs must, however, strive to overcome the multiple challenges they face through efficiency in service delivery to regain the confidence of the communities they serve and the government in general.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mallam Jamilu Gwangwazo from the Nigeria Institute of Hospitality and Tourism, Bagaud Lake Northwest campus, Kano State, stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace local recipes in agricultural production. He asserted that local recipes are more hygienic, affordable, and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p>Gwangwazo, presenting a paper titled &#8220;Healthy Living Tips Recipe for Affordable and Hygienic Diet in Nigeria,&#8221; urged Nigerians to adopt local foods with high nutritional value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to remind people of local recipes they are leaving behind. Even during the time of our forefathers, they used these local recipes and they even lived longer and were healthier than people are nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of nutritional value, local recipes have more nutritional value than some of these foreign expensive things because they are naturally created for us.
