On Tuesday, September 5, there was a notable lack of adherence to the nationwide strike directive issued by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Ekiti State, as workers resumed their regular duties.<\/p>\n

Observations made at the Government Secretariat indicated that civil servants had reported to work at various ministries and departments, with only a few offices remaining locked.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Employees in key sectors such as Justice, Health, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service were seen at their duty stations as early as 8 am without any hindrance.<\/p>\n

Additionally, contrary to the NLC’s directive, health workers in public health institutions across the state also reported to work.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A civil servant, speaking anonymously, attributed the low compliance to poor mobilization, as a significant number of workers were unaware of the strike.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He suggested that the strike might not succeed in the state because Governor Biodun Oyebanji had prioritized the welfare of workers, and civil servants were not inclined to take actions that would strain the existing peaceful relationship. He further noted that the Ekiti government had introduced palliative measures to alleviate the hardships resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.<\/p>\n

He stated, “Why should we go on strike and what will be the consequences? In the end, we may end up losing. Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been very good to us.
