Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who read the lead judgment, declared that the appeal filed by Jibrin Barde, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lacked merit.<\/p>\n<p>The court affirmed that Yahaya, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was validly re-elected by the people of Gombe as governor.<\/p>\n<p>Yahaya had been declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), receiving 342,821 votes to defeat his closest rival, Barde, who polled 233,131 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Barde&#8217;s petition challenging Yahaya&#8217;s victory had been dismissed by the election petitions tribunal and the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court of Nigeria has upheld the victory of Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, in the 2023 election.
