The event featured the launch of two books, ‘WORKING WITH BUHARI: REFLECTIONS OF A SPECIAL ADVISER, MEDIA AND PUBLICITY (2015-2023),’ and ‘MUHAMMADU BUHARI: THE NIGERIAN LEGACY (2015 – 2023).’<\/p>\n
While praising the humor of President Muhammadu Buhari, Osinbajo shared an anecdote about a discussion in 2016 regarding a proposed visit to the Niger Delta’s oil-producing communities. He revealed that Buhari, in a stern yet sarcastic tone, cautioned him, saying, “Don’t be the first Vice President to be kidnapped!”<\/p>\n
The former vice president further addressed the prevailing challenges of Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping across Nigeria, emphasizing the troubling extension of these issues to the nation’s capital, with reported incidents of abductions and violence within Abuja and its environs.<\/p>\n
Osinbajo recalled a story told by President Buhari, highlighting the contrasting nature of military leadership and democratic rule. The narrative emphasized the efficiency of military decision-making compared to the bureaucratic challenges faced in a democratic setting. President Buhari illustrated the shift in approach from detaining individuals suspected of corruption to the current democratic practice where individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.<\/p>\n
Corruption, Osinbajo asserted, remains a significant obstacle to Nigeria’s development.
