Wadata Bodinga, the Director of Traffic Management at the Transportation Secretariat of the FCTA, issued a stern warning against violating traffic rules in Abuja. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, he emphasized that sanctions would be imposed on offenders.<\/p>\n
Bodinga acknowledged an 80% decrease in traffic violations but expressed that the city is not yet at the desired level of compliance. Despite ongoing efforts to upgrade traffic lights for improved data capture at city junctions, Bodinga noted that some individuals still disregard traffic signals.<\/p>\n
He explained that the enhanced traffic lights, once activated, will promptly record and transmit details of traffic violators to the Traffic Light Control Centre. Offenders will face consequences during vehicle paper renewal, including fines and other contemplated measures.<\/p>\n
The primary objective is to enhance the safety and security of motorists in the FCT, Bodinga emphasized. He highlighted the FCTA’s comprehensive initiatives, including collaboration with China to install functional traffic lights at various junctions. The upgrade allows remote monitoring, swift maintenance, and efficient functionality.<\/p>\n
Addressing challenges, Bodinga identified theft of batteries powering traffic lights by scavengers and miscreants.
