During a press meeting in Jos on Monday, Veronica Abe, the state’s NHRC coordinator, disclosed these disturbing numbers.<\/p>\n
Abe highlighted the diversity of the reported cases, encompassing issues ranging from unlawful detention and extrajudicial killings to inhuman treatment, domestic violence, child abuse, child abandonment, rape, denial of inheritance, and forced marriage. This comprehensive list underscored the pervasive nature of human rights violations within the state.<\/p>\n
“A total of 752 cases of human rights abuse were reported in Plateau between January and November 2023,” Abe emphasized. “While many of these cases have been successfully treated and concluded, there are still ongoing investigations.”<\/p>\n
The NHRC coordinator went on to provide a breakdown of the affected individuals, revealing that 1,053 persons were impacted, including 166 women and 463 children. This staggering number shed light on the extent to which human rights violations have affected vulnerable groups within the state.<\/p>\n
