Airtel Africa is set to establish Africa’s largest data centre in Nigeria, according to Segun Ogunsanya, the CEO of Airtel Africa. This announcement follows the expansion of the telecom company’s services, bringing its customer base to a staggering 150 million.<\/p>\n
Segun Ogunsanya shared the ambitious plans during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Ogunsanya expressed Airtel’s commitment to overcoming challenges posed by foreign exchange fluctuations and affirmed the company’s continuous investment in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
“We’re always expanding our business; we always invest in the country. We’re going to set up a new data centre in the country,” Ogunsanya stated. He revealed that the land for the data centre has already been acquired, and groundbreaking is imminent. The data centre is projected to be one of the largest in Africa, offering services to all multinationals operating in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Despite acknowledging challenges related to foreign exchange liquidity, Ogunsanya expressed optimism, stating, “We’re not out of the woods yet, but we can see light at the end of the tunnel.” He emphasized that the data centre would contribute to more effective planning for Airtel Africa.<\/p>\n
The CEO clarified that the data centre would cater to both local and foreign companies, solidifying its position as a major technological hub in the region. While final budgeting is yet to be completed, Ogunsanya assured that the necessary groundwork has been laid, with consultants engaged and plans for construction underway.<\/p>\n
As Ogunsanya shared these strategic plans, he also revealed that he is set to retire from Airtel Africa in six months. He took the opportunity to inform President Bola Tinubu of his impending retirement.<\/p>\n
