The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has lamented the state of human capital development in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Obi asserted that the inadequate attention being paid to human capital development is the root cause of most investment challenges.<\/p>\n
Speaking via his X\u00a0account @PeterObi, the former Anambra governor expressed shock that 2024 budget had a sum of N5 billion\u00a0budgeted\u00a0for student loans while a larger sum of N6 billion was earmarked\u00a0to build a\u00a0car park\u00a0for the legislators.<\/p>\n
He opined that if Nigeria does not cut cost of governance and strictly prioritizes\u00a0expenditure\u00a0on areas of\u00a0growth and development, the country will not achieve any tangible and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
Obi said it is shocking that Nigeria\u2019s budget was signed and released to the world without prioritizing the critical areas of investment for the people.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cToday, in this country, the inadequate attention being paid to human capital development is at the root of most investment challenges. This malaise has become a recurring decimal in our political life due to poor governance and persistent leadership failure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is therefore shocking that our budget was signed and released to the world without prioritizing the critical areas of investment for the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cA sum of N5 billion was\u00a0budgeted\u00a0for student loans, while a larger sum of N6 billion was\u00a0budgeted\u00a0to build a\u00a0car park\u00a0for Legislators, who recently used 12 times the amount of student loans to buy official cars. Now we are using an amount more than was\u00a0budgeted\u00a0for student loans to provide legislators with\u00a0car parks. Nigeria remains a country without a national\u00a0library.\u201d<\/p>\n
