The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced its intentions to implement a Unified Standard Transportation System in the nation’s capital. Dr. Abdulateef Bello, the Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), shared this plan during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting on Monday.<\/p>\n
Bello highlighted that the recovery of taxi ranks, which had earlier received quit notices within the capital city, is set to commence. The purpose is to reorganize these ranks for licensed operators, emphasizing the need to standardize Abuja’s transportation system due to the city’s rapid evolution.<\/p>\n
He stressed the importance of not neglecting any aspect of the city’s development, asserting that an organized transportation system is imperative for meeting the needs of all citizens. Bello further disclosed that the administration has collaborated with consultants to introduce buses using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to address mass transit challenges in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Once deployed on various routes, these buses are expected to replace the outdated vehicles and taxis causing disruptions on Abuja roads. Dr. Abubakar Sadiq, the Chairman of RTEIN Mass Transit, welcomed the administration’s new policies but emphasized the need for careful consideration of critical players in the transportation sector.
