The assailants, armed and brazen, targeted eight residents within the estate before extending their audacity to abducting two staff members from a nearby hotel. Vanguard newspaper reported that the distressing incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m., leaving the community in shock and fear.<\/p>\n
The victims were forcibly led to the nearby hills behind the estate, adding a sinister layer to the unfolding crisis. Eyewitnesses recounted that attempts by security personnel and estate security to pursue the kidnappers were met with fierce resistance. The bandits, equipped with superior firepower, strategically fired from vantage positions atop the hills, further complicating rescue efforts.<\/p>\n
Despite assurances from the FCT Police Command over the weekend, pledging increased security measures for residents in Ushafa, Bwari, and surrounding areas, the incident highlights the continued challenges faced by communities in the region. Ushafa, a mere five-minute drive from the targeted estate, had previously been mentioned in the security briefing.<\/p>\n
The recent incident follows a disturbing pattern of banditry in the FCT and its neighboring regions. Notably, on December 24, bandits raided the Garam community, located just a five-minute drive from Bwari, resulting in the tragic killing of a pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the abduction of 13 individuals. Subsequent attacks unfolded on December 28 in Kuduru, where 18 persons were kidnapped, and on December 29 in Azu, Niger State, resulting in three fatalities and eight abductions.<\/p>\n
