The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, is set to face detectives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today over an alleged fraud amounting to N37 billion.<\/p>\n
The ex-minister received an invitation from the anti-graft agency last week following the launch of a probe into her activities during her six-year tenure in the ministry. The investigation centers around the sum of N37,170,855,753.44, which is purportedly laundered under her supervision through a contractor, James Okwete.<\/p>\n
Officials from the anti-graft agency informed Daily Trust on Tuesday that the former minister had been previously instructed to appear before interrogators at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, at 10:00 am. Other officials who worked with her have also been invited on different days to shed light on the ministry’s operations over the past six years.<\/p>\n
In a separate development, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate suspension of Halima Shehu from her position as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). Tinubu appointed Akindele Egbuwalo, the national N-Power program manager, in an acting capacity while an investigation is initiated into the activities of the embattled former head of the agency.<\/p>\n
