Together, let us express our gratitude to Almighty God for His grace and benevolence throughout the challenges and triumphs of the past year, especially the peaceful transition of power, marking another milestone in our 24 years of unbroken democracy.

In this New Year, filled with optimism and renewed hope, I find joy in addressing you, the gracious people of our blessed nation. Your trust and mandate have propelled us to embark on a journey to make Nigeria better—to revamp our economy, restore security, and set our nation on an irreversible path towards greatness.

The challenges of the past year were formidable, yet, as a united people, we navigated through them. Our collective resolve and commitment were evident in the peaceful transfer of power and the faith bestowed upon my administration to steer our nation to greater heights.

The core of my Renewed Hope campaign message was to build a better nation and create a society that cares for all citizens. Every decision made, every trip taken, and every action since assuming office in May 2023 has been in the best interest of our beloved country.

Over the past seven months, we faced economic challenges head-on, making difficult but necessary decisions to safeguard our nation from fiscal catastrophe. The removal of the longstanding fuel subsidy and addressing the foreign exchange system’s imbalances were crucial steps, albeit causing temporary discomfort to individuals, families, and businesses.

I acknowledge the conversations around the rising cost of living, high inflation, and the unacceptable under-employment rate. From the boardrooms in Lagos to the main streets in Kano and the creeks of Bayelsa, I hear the concerns of hardworking Nigerians. I understand the frustrations and assure you that tough times will not define us; rather, they should energize our commitment to the promise of Nigeria.

In this New Year, I pledge to address the socio-economic challenges, striving to make 2024 a year of tangible progress. While challenges persist, our spirit must remain unbowed. We are made for this period, and together, we will overcome.

Our commitment to security remains unwavering. We have worked to free captives from abductors, although challenges persist. The groundwork for economic recovery has been laid, and in 2024, we will accelerate service delivery across sectors. Agreements, such as the one with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the Siemens Energy power project, reflect our dedication to a reliable electricity supply.

To ensure food security, we will cultivate 500,000 hectares of farmland, with ongoing efforts under the National Wheat Development Programme. The journey to restart local refining of petroleum products with the Port Harcourt Refinery and Dangote Refinery coming fully on stream is underway.

In the business environment, I am committed to fighting obstacles that hinder competitiveness. Nigeria is ready and open for business. I will work to remove impediments, making Nigeria a prime destination for local and foreign investments.

The 2024 Budget outlines our priorities, focusing on national defence, job creation, macro-economic stability, investment environment optimization, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security. Every Nigerian will feel the impact of their government, and we will implement a new national living wage for workers this year.

My major ambition has always been to build a fair and equitable society, closing the widening inequality gap. In this New Year and beyond, we will work to give every Nigerian equal opportunity to strive and thrive.

As we work towards our collective prosperity, building a prosperous nation is not solely the President’s responsibility. It requires the efforts of every citizen. I call on all Nigerians, regardless of differences, to work for peace, progress, and stability. Let us let our individual lights shine bright, collectively illuminating the path to a glorious dawn.

I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2024.

May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR

January 01, 2024

Dear Compatriots, I extend warm greetings to all citizens, both young and old, as we step into the promising year of 2024.
