The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has apprehended 23 suspects involved in crimes such as rape, armed robbery, and car theft within the territory, according to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haruna Garba. The announcement was made during a media briefing in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Of the arrested individuals, nine are linked to one-chance incidents, two to rape cases, and 12 to armed robbery. The police recovered five vehicles, five firearms, and 12 live rounds of ammunition from the suspects.<\/p>\n
Commissioner Garba highlighted the significant drop in crime for December, attributing it to the successful arrests and recoveries made in November. He reassured the public of the safety of the FCT, dismissing rumors circulating on social media about the area being unsafe.<\/p>\n
“I wish to bring to the attention of the general public that there are some mischief-makers out there posting items on social media that the FCT is not safe and that one-chance operators have taken over the FCT. This is not true,” he emphasized, asserting that the FCT is the safest city in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Addressing the spread of misinformation, Garba urged caution, stating, “It is unfortunate that someone is leveraging social media to misinform the entire populace that FCT is not safe. Those behind the fake news should be mindful of the fact that Nigeria is the only country that we call our own.”<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the intention behind such false information was to instill fear and apprehension, affecting both the local population and potential investors.
