In a shocking incident at Tesla’s Giga Texas factory near Austin, a Tesla engineer was reportedly attacked by a malfunctioning robot. The incident occurred during the programming of software for disabled Tesla robots, with two other employees witnessing the alarming event.<\/p>\n

According to reports, the robot, designed to handle freshly cast aluminum car parts, malfunctioned and pinned the engineer. The machine’s metal claws allegedly caused injuries, leaving a trail of blood on the factory surface. The injured worker suffered an open wound on his left hand.<\/p>\n

The details of the incident were disclosed in a 2021 injury report submitted to Travis County and federal regulators, which is mandatory for Tesla to maintain tax breaks in Texas. While the report claimed that the engineer did not require time off work, concerns have been raised about the accuracy of injury reporting at the factory.<\/p>\n

An attorney representing Tesla’s Giga Texas contract workers, Hannah Alexander of the nonprofit Workers Defense Project, has expressed skepticism about the accuracy of injury reports. She stated that, based on conversations with workers, the number of injuries and incidents, including a construction worker’s death in September 2021, may be underreported.<\/p>\n

Alexander advised caution in interpreting the injury reports and suggested that there might be discrepancies between actual incidents and what Tesla officially reports to authorities for tax incentives.<\/p>\n

This incident adds to the ongoing discussions about the potential risks associated with automated robots in the workplace.
