The Federal Government’s decision to subsidize luxury bus fares, as announced by Dele Alake, the Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on the Presidential Intervention on Public Transportation, was met with approval by NANS. Obi emphasized that such a move not only eases financial burdens but also facilitates family reunions and festive celebrations for many Nigerians.<\/p>\n
While acknowledging Tinubu’s gesture, NANS urged the President to consider extending this benefit to students by offering free transportation, particularly during the holiday season. Recognizing the financial constraints faced by students, NANS believes that such an extension would significantly alleviate their financial burdens, allowing them to travel home without financial constraints.<\/p>\n
Dele Alake further elaborated on the transport discounts, stating that Tinubu had approved a 50% reduction in land transportation fares from December 21 to January 4, 2024. Additionally, zero fares for train transportation across all states during the same period were also announced, aiming to provide relief to the masses.<\/p>\n
