The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TotalEnergies for the adoption and deployment of methane detection technology called Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Application (AUSEA) in all its upstream operations.<\/p>\n

The announcement came through a statement by the NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi O. Soneye, who highlighted that the technology would be deployed on NNPCL’s upstream operation sites. This move aims to assess methane emissions from these sites, enabling NNPCL to implement emission reduction measures to combat global warming and climate change.<\/p>\n

The agreement emerged as a direct outcome of NNPCL’s participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) held in Dubai, UAE.<\/p>\n

The MoU was officially signed by NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Managing Director and Country Chair of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer. The signing event was witnessed by Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., Mele Kyari, and Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyann\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Mele Kyari, the GCEO of NNPCL, expressed appreciation for TotalEnergies as a reliable partner and looked forward to exploring greater opportunities in the nation’s energy sector through this collaboration. Patrick Pouyann\u00e9, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, emphasized his company’s commitment to promoting responsible hydrocarbon production by offering the AUSEA technology to NNPCL.<\/p>\n

The Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, detailed that the pilot phase of TotalEnergies AUSEA deployment would be conducted on NNPCL’s owned operations. The technology is expected to facilitate the deployment of methane abatement measures, identify unaccounted emission sources, improve emission reporting processes, review operational systems, and estimate flare combustion efficiency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
