Dr. Doris Anite, Nigeria’s Minister of Trade and Investment, has unveiled plans for the federal government to automate the process of issuing export permits in the country, with a specific focus on the oil and gas sector. Speaking during an Oil and Gas stakeholders meeting in Abuja, the minister highlighted the necessity of the gathering to foster growth within the sector.<\/p>\n
Addressing journalists, Dr. Anite emphasized the key topics under discussion, stating, “We are all here to discuss issues around export, how to improve, and how to ensure that export proceeds come back timely and efficiently.” She reported that the meeting resulted in fruitful discussions and resolutions aimed at streamlining service delivery in the sector.<\/p>\n
The minister announced a significant decision, stating, “At the end of the day, we agreed to automate the sector regarding export permits.” This move is expected to enhance efficiency and transparency in the export process, particularly in the vital oil and gas industry. Additionally, the stakeholders agreed on the implementation of a single platform across all ministries to further improve and streamline the export permit process.<\/p>\n
During the discussions, there was also a consensus on the importance of establishing a backward integrated program to support industrialization in the sector, with a specific emphasis on petrochemical development and refinement.<\/p>\n
In attendance at the stakeholders meeting, Dr. Hassan Mahmud, the Director of Trade and Exchange representing the Central Bank of Nigeria, stressed the need for synergy between the government and the private sector. He noted that, in addition to government-led monitoring and evaluation, collaborative efforts with the private sector are essential for addressing challenges effectively.<\/p>\n
