The President pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of policies that pose challenges to the media industry, including regulations impacting local access to newsprint\u2014the primary raw material for newspaper production.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu made these commitments during a meeting with leaders of the Newspapers Proprietors\u2019 Association of Nigeria (NPAN) at the State House in Abuja. In response to requests from NPAN, the President also addressed the Federal Government&#8217;s plan to grant waivers to operators in air, road, and rail transportation, aiming to alleviate the escalating transportation costs.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale quoted President Tinubu, expressing gratitude for the support, opinions, and even criticism from the media, acknowledging their role in holding the government accountable. He emphasized his dedication to reading various newspapers and respecting diverse opinions.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu affirmed his administration&#8217;s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the economy, citing bold decisions such as ending the petrol subsidy regime and initiating the unification of foreign exchange rates. He promised a transparent government and highlighted investments in crucial sectors like health, infrastructure, transportation, and education.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding media freedom, President Tinubu assured NPAN leaders that his administration would uphold the principles of media freedom and respect diverse opinions, whether supportive or critical. He acknowledged concerns about existing regulations hindering local access to newsprint and pledged to carefully consider NPAN&#8217;s request for a policy review affecting the paper industry.<\/p>\n<p>Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris, a former owner of BluePrint Newspaper, echoed the government&#8217;s commitment to fostering a vibrant and responsible media landscape.
