Joint Task Force team of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on City Sanitation apprehended 19 protesters who had gathered at the premises of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) in Wuse, Abuja.<\/p>\n
The protesters, along with numerous others, had converged at the council’s headquarters to express their discontent over the demolition of a Mechanic Village in Kubwa by officials of the AMMC’s Department of Development Control.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of the department, informed journalists that the protesters disrupted the peace in the area, leading to the arrest of 19 individuals. According to Galadima, the protesters claimed ownership of shops in the Kubwa mechanic village that was demolished, but he questioned their proof of legitimate allocations in the area.<\/p>\n
Galadima revealed that the department had ordered the demolition of the mechanic village, which was allegedly built illegally on someone else’s property. He emphasized that the demolition was necessary due to multiple complaints of encroachment by the rightful property owners.<\/p>\n
Describing the protest as “simply thuggery,” Galadima announced the department’s intention to recommend the prosecution of those responsible for the breach of peace. He also pledged to investigate and take appropriate action against any officers found to have facilitated the development of the mechanic village.<\/p>\n
