Lauren James has apologized to Super Falcons\u2019 Michelle Alozie for the incident which led to her being sent off on Monday.<\/p>\n
James was sent off during England\u2019s last-16 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup win over Nigeria and vowed to learn from the experience.<\/p>\n
The forward was dismissed for deliberately standing on the back of the Nigeria defender, with three minutes of normal time remaining in Brisbane.<\/p>\n
England survived the dismissal to advance to the quarter-finals 4-2 on penalty kicks after the game finished goalless following extra time.<\/p>\n
In response to a tweet from Alozie, James posted: \u201cAll my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
James will miss Saturday\u2019s quarter-final against Colombia in Sydney due to an automatic one-match ban.<\/p>\n
The suspension could be extended to three games by FIFA\u2019s disciplinary committee, meaning she would be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament.<\/p>\n
England believe the incident was \u201cwholly out of character\u201d and intend to make representation on the 21-year-old\u2019s behalf during the disciplinary process.<\/p>\n
\u201cLauren is really sorry for her actions which led to the red card and is full of remorse,\u201d an England statement read. \u201cIt is wholly out of character for her.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be supporting Lauren throughout and will be putting forward representation on her behalf.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe fully respect FIFA\u2019s disciplinary process and will not be making any further comment until after any decision has been made.\u201d<\/p>\n
James became the fourth England player to be sent off in a World Cup knockout match after David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and current Lionesses captain Millie Bright.<\/p>\n
England coach Sarina Wiegman admitted James had \u201clost her emotions\u201d during a moment of indiscretion.<\/p>\n
Alozie had earlier tweeted in defence of James.<\/p>\n
