The surge in criminal activities within Abuja, the federal capital, has taken a distressing turn with the recent attacks on Gbaupe, a rural village behind ACO Estate Lugbe along the Abuja Airport Road. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in the kidnapping of 12 individuals, including a 9-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.<\/p>\n
According to a villager who spoke to the media, the attackers targeted Gbaupe in a manner unprecedented for the village, marking an alarming escalation in criminality. The assailants, numbering up to 15, carried out the kidnapping operation between 12:15 am and 2:46 am, with two of the victims managing to escape as they were being led into the bush behind the village.<\/p>\n
Despite previous criminal incidents in Gbaupe, this latest attack stands out due to its magnitude. The local Vigilante attempted to engage the kidnappers, but they were reportedly overpowered, highlighting the criminals’ superior firepower.<\/p>\n
The resident, speaking anonymously, shared details of the harrowing night, stating, “One vigilante was killed. The kidnappers were about 15 in number. They operated from 12:15 a.m. until 2:46 am, firing sporadically. The kidnappers are yet to make contact with the family. This is the 3rd incident this year.”<\/p>\n
This incident follows a disturbing pattern of criminality in the region, encompassing areas such as Gbau, Kuje, Gauge, Pegi, Abaji, Keti, and Kwali, where kidnappers have operated with impunity for more than three years.<\/p>\n
In a separate incident, bandits targeted Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
