Yakub Muhammed, a journalist with Premium Times, was arrested while covering the protests at Eagles Square in Abuja. After his release, Muhammed spoke to Abuja City Journal about the incident.

Muhammed explained that he was at the protest as part of his journalistic duties when he was suddenly apprehended by security personnel. “I was just doing my job, reporting on the events unfolding at Eagles Square, when I was arrested without any explanation,” he said.

He recounted how his press credentials and identification were disregarded during the arrest.

“Despite identifying myself as a journalist and showing my press ID, they still took me in.

This incident highlights the risks that journalists face in the line of duty. It’s crucial that authorities respect the role of the press in a democratic society.
